Within the current corona pandemic, elderly people as a group with higher health risks are in the focus of the discussion. However, in dhe development discourses of the last years, elderly people have often ben neglected concerning their participatory rights as well as safeguarding.

In addition, we will have a look at the current pandemic situation and public health of the country. How is the second wave of the pandemic impacting the social and economic situation? Our partners of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM) will report. ELCM is active in the health-care sector for decades, among others with mobile clinics and medication campaigns.

With

Mphatso Thole, Information and Communications Director, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (Lilongwe)

Florian Jürgens, HelpAge International (London, UK)

Andrew Kavala, Executive Director MANEPO (Limbe, Malawi)

(HelpAge International and MANEPO are claiming social, economic and cultural rights for elderly people and are campaigning for an universal pension scheme in Malawi.)
